A Poem – Week Three

I wrote a series of poems about the seasons between 1994 and 1995.  This winter poem was written on December 27, 1994.  At this time, I was living in the Midwest where the winters are incredibly cold and dreary.  I was dreaming of a cozy day in front of a fireplace, instead of another day of dreary gray skies.

Winter

Snowflakes,

Fireplace,

Cold outside,

Warm inside

All the time.

The things that remind me of winter

Rush into my head.

It took me time to realize

That fall is dead.

I have to look at the winter ahead.

In the winter time I feel the need

To hold someone close.

In the winter is when you need

Someone to love the most.

How did winter get here so fast?

It seems like a winter from the past.

Fall, I’m sorry I let you go.

It’s time to watch the winter snow.
