This poem, written on November 18, 1996, was born of a desire for a better life. I felt like people were holding me back and I needed to take control of my happiness.
Self-Love
Today’s the day
I’ll be all I can be
Today’s the day
I’ll stand up for me
No more falling
In the shadow trap
I’ll reach the top
And achieve my goals
I will never stop
Working as hard
As I can
Sometimes into the night
I’ll never stop trying
To do what is right
To find the mountaintop
Looking for the highest high
All the immature people and things
I will tell goodbye
I’ll be truly happy
I’ll see what there is to see
I’ll never stop
Trying to be all I can be.
