The following are the other two poems that were published in my high school literary magazine my freshman year.

Troubled Woman’s title was inspired by the Marvin Gaye song, “Trouble Man.  My goal was to capture to the grittiness of his music from the 1970’s.

Sorrow was based on a painting that I saw during a school field trip.  I tried to capture the grief and despair.  Unfortunately, I cannot find the painting online, so I don’t know the artist.

Troubled Woman

She has faced troubles

has seen pain

She has lost hope

has felt rain

and cannot cope

She bows her head

With a dream

she’ll soon be dead

away from the terror

that makes her scream

She’s a troubled woman

with a sad life

living in a man’s world

where there’s nothing but strife

Can no one help this troubled life?

Sorrow

With her head down

her chin in her hand

she mourns the recent passing

of her beloved

She doubts she can love again

The ground touches her bare feet

She has never felt so alone.
