This poem was written around 1994. I used to observe other people’s relationships and try to figure them out via poetry. In this poem, I attempt to understand why someone would wait around hours for a date.
Where are you?
I stare out into the storm
And I wonder where you are
Are you at home,
Are you in your car?
Are you near
Or are you far?
I hope you’re okay wherever you are
You keep me wondering from ten to twelve
After 2 hours I figure you can go to hell
I change into my pajamas and turn on the tube
And totally forget about you or any fool
Just then, the doorbell rings
It is you standing there looking sad and blue
And trying to think of a story
That will sound just a little true
Where were you?
I wondered for those 2 hours
Now you’re here looking like a coward
Why? Why? Why?
Why did I have to believe you?
I guess I’m in love
I don’t have any other clue.
