I wrote my poetry book, I Forgot About Me during some of the darkest, saddest days of my life. I experienced a health crisis that I wrote several posts about, then about six weeks after that, my mother passed away. I felt like I was suffocating under the grief. One thing that helped me to get through this time was reading. I wrote this book because I knew there were other people out there who experienced the kind of loss that I did. If I can make one person feel understood or less alone, then the effort of writing and publishing the book was worth it.
This is one of the poems that I wrote about my grief. Don’t worry, the book covers other topics as well.
Absence
Your absence is a presence
In my home
In my soul
I can’t forget.
A shadow on my heart
In my dreams
In my mind
I can’t forget.
An ache in my chest
In my heart
In my spirit
I can’t forget.
